Recommended seat height for counter stools and barstools

When choosing a seat height for your stools, the most important consideration is the leg clearance between the top surface of the seat and the underside of your counter. You will want enough space to allow for freedom of movement of the body and legs without coming into contact with the underside of the counter. We recommend a clearance of around 9”-11”.

Assuming an approximate counter thickness of 1.75”, typical counter height / seat height pairings are:

36”counter height / 24” seat height

40”counter height / 28” seat height

48” counter height / 36” seat height

We can customize all our stool designs to whatever seat height you need. Footrests are usually placed between 17”-18” below the top of the seat for optimal ergonomics, no matter what seat height you choose.
